Read the line, not just the label

In an over/under 2.5 goals market, Over wins if the covered match total is at least three goals; Under wins if the total is zero, one or two. A half-goal line avoids an exact whole-goal tie. That does not mean every totals market uses the same period or rules.

A line of 2.0 differs from 2.5 because exactly two goals may be treated as a push or void for that selection under applicable market terms. Quarter-goal markets can divide a stake across two adjacent lines. The label and rules should explain the settlement.

LineTotal belowTotal equalTotal above
2.5Under settles as winner at 0–2Not possible with whole goalsOver settles as winner at 3+
2.0Under below 2Check push/void rule at exactly 2Over above 2
3.0Under below 3Check push/void rule at exactly 3Over above 3

Check which goals count

The market may cover full-time, first half, second half or another period. Some competitions have extra time; some do not. A market titled “total goals” does not necessarily include every period in a match day. Use the exact wording from the operator.

Own goals and other unusual scoring events are settled under the competition result and operator rules. A live display can lag behind official match data, so a current visual score is not always the settlement record.

Use calculators for price arithmetic only

The implied-probability tool can convert a decimal price for Over or Under into a raw implied percentage. The margin calculator can sum both prices for that same line. Neither tool analyses teams, weather, lineups, shot data or match state.

Do not combine Over from one line with Under from another line in a margin calculation. The outcomes must belong to one mutually exclusive market with the same line and period.

Common reading mistakes

  • Treating 2.5 as 2 or 3 instead of a threshold between whole-goal totals.
  • Forgetting that a line ending in .0 may have push or void treatment.
  • Ignoring whether extra time is included.
  • Assuming a higher total line is automatically less likely in every match.
